How can a heavy hull float and sink?
Connect the ballast route before flooding or blowing it.
A submerged hull displaces a fixed volume of water. Its buoyant force is the weight of that displaced water. Taking water into a ballast tank increases the submarine’s weight; compressed air pushes that ballast water out again.
Rigid sealed hull, fixed 10 m³ displacement, fresh water density 1,000 kg/m³, dry mass 9,000 kg. Compressed air expels ballast; this is a buoyancy comparison, not a depth simulator.
