Why does stopping over more distance reduce force?
Fit the components, then test the mechanism.
The belt keeps the occupant attached to the slowing sled. A longer controlled stop gives the same momentum change more time, reducing average force. This calculation does not predict injury or certify a restraint.
Constant-deceleration educational sled. Ignores variable belt tension and occupant biomechanics; no safety threshold or certification claim.
Stop the attached occupant over at least 0.5 m.
Compare stopping force at different stopping distances.
