Where does a lens form its image?
Fit a lens into the holder.
A converging lens can form a real inverted image on a screen when the object is beyond its focal length. Move the object inside that distance and the image becomes virtual. A diverging lens produces a virtual image for a real object.
Thin-lens law; horizontal distance 4 mm per diagram unit. Fixed lens at x=50. Screen detects a real image within 5 mm of its plane. At the focal plane outgoing rays are parallel; virtual rays are dashed.
